Belgian Kim Clijsters marked a remarkable return to top-flight tennis today with her straight sets win (7-5, 6-3) over 19 year old Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, reclaiming the U.S. Open title she last won in 2005.
On this form, Clijsters, who clearly displays not only the strength to match it with the likes of the Williams' sisters but also the mental aptitude, will go on to enjoy further success as her comeback gathers momentum. On the men's side of the draw, Rafael Nadal was unceremoniously dumped out of the tournament by Argentine Juan Martin del Potro (6-2, 6-2, 6-2). While in the other semi, World Number 1 Roger Federer produced some sublime tennis to move past Serb Novak Djokovic (7-6, 7-5, 7-5).
Unsupringly, Federer is the firm favourite ($1.31) to take out the title in what is his 6th consecutive U.S. Open final. That being said, the plucky del Potro ($4.10) is an all or nothing competitor who won't make things easy for the Swiss master.
